Showing the scrapbook project to your star

Making your star feel at ease as you are showing the scrapbook project is not difficult if you know scrapbook psychology.

OK...LIGHTS DOWN...ROLL THE FLICK! Jitters? If you have them, think of what your star has.

Their emotions and life is out there for all to see. There are several interesting dynamics here which you need to be aware of as you are showing the scrapbook project. Learn these video scrapbook techniques ...

  • You have invested time, money and emotion into getting this done. You will tend to defend your decisions as to the look and content of the program.
  • The star will probably be initially surprised at his/her appearance and may be at least slightly disappointed in how they did.
  • There could be a disagreement between you and the star ranging from scrapping the entire project to going back and re-shooting or re-editing several things.
  • While this last point is extremely rare, you should always hold your ground unless the star is in tears as you are showing the scrapbook project. If you properly worked with your subject over the course of discussing expectations, the script, and during the recording, there is little chance of any problem. But sometimes people just expect to see themselves differently on video then they actually come out. Your quick course here in scrapbook psychology should allow you to state that...

The sole purpose of the video scrapbook is to document a moment in a loved one’s life and their unique contributions.

This is all done in a loving fashion without any preconceived notions.

You and the rest of the loved ones who see this presentation expect a genuine person (flaws and all) and not a fake television star.

The content is the important part of this...not a dramatic performance.

Remember...if the star is truly disappointed, you have an obligation to remove anything he/she finds objectionable in order to help him/her become more comfortable.

If you don’t you will ruin your trust relationship with the person and maybe the other loved ones as well. Don’t risk it.

Now, we’ve added this “worst case” possibility just in case it might happen. We don’t expect it. In fact you will find out that the star is elated, supremely honored, pleased that you took the time to do the project about them, and (as it was in our mother’s cases) discovers enough additional material to do several more hours. GREAT!
