Video scrapbook shooting hints

If you understand a few video scrapbook shooting hints, your digital video scrapbook footage can look reasonably professional. They don’t take any time to implement but will save you time later. Here are few video scrapbook shooting hints or shooting tips – there are many more in our E-Book.
  • 1. Try to position your set so the background is dynamic. A flat wall is not dynamic, a corner or curved wall is.
  • 2. Add special meaningful props into the shot. Like a favorite pillow, teddy bear, vase, etc.
  • 3. Set the camera shot so you can see the upper half of the person and so they have room to move their arms and hands without going out of the camera view.
  • 4. If you use a light – use it from the back right side of the camera – don’t use a light mounted on the camera.
  • 5. Never put a lamp into the shot unless it is off.
  • 6. Have the background of the shot darker than the the foreground.
  • 7. Set the camera on the tripod at the same height as the head of the person you are shooting.
  • 8. Use a lavalier microphone (one you pin on a person) instead of the mic on the camera. Don’t bury it under heavy clothes or next to a jingly necklace.
  • 9. Once you set the camera shot DO NOT USE THE ZOOM. Change the shot only when you stop the camera.
  • 10.If your subject is dark-skinned, keep everything else a deep color in the scene. If white-skinned, you can use lighter colors but stay away from white especially on a shirt or blouse.
  • The last of our video scrapbook shooting hints...the star of your digital video scrapbook is not the cameraperson or even the scene being shot. The star is the person being recorded. Many video newcomers feel they have to move the camera a lot or zoom in and out. I guess they think that will demonstrate how creative they are. It really just shows that they aren’t skilled. If you want to take a quick 5 minute course on professional video technique, turn on an interview program and see how much the camera moves. It doesn’t. The importance of the content is what drives the show and not the technical stuff.
